The Charles Hill Sports Centre

About this website
This website is provided to promote the campaign to save the Charles Hill Sports Hall from closure and demolition.
It will be updated with
all the latest news and events as soon as each item becomes available.
The campaign is being co-ordinated by local volunteers who strongly oppose the
planned closure and believe that Loscoe needs to keep this facility open and available to all.

About the centre
The Charles Hill Sports Centre and playing fields lie just off the main road betweem Heanor and Codnor. The playing
fields occupy land given to the local people under deed of covenant. The pitches nearest main road are on land given by the coal board, and others were
given by Charles Lawley Hill, from whom they get their name.
The building that is part of the complex houses changing rooms, a meeting room and an indoor sports hall. The sports hall is used for activities
such as badminton and five-a-side football, and is also available for private hire for parties.
Unfortunately, the hall is in urgent need of repairs as the hall has to be closed during wet weather owing to leaks in the roof.
Threatened closure
Amber Valley Borough Council recently announced its intention to close and demolish the sports hall, on the grounds that it is not sufficiently
untilised to warrant the spending required to carry out necessaey repairs. Under the plan, the changing rooms and the meeting room, as well as the outdoor
pitches would remain.
Opposition to closure
On Saturday 13th November 2010, it became clear that many people were not happy with the Amber
Valley Borough Council proposal to close and demolish the sports hall. Visit the Campaign Page to find out about the campaign to save
Charles Hill Sports Hall and how to add your support.
