At the full Amber Valley Borough Council Meeting on 1st March the petition was debated. The decision to close the sports hall on 31st March was not altered.
Councillors Alan Longdon and Chis Emmas-Williams both resigned from the panel that overseas Leisure centres in the borough as they felt they had not been listened to with regard to the closure.

Members of the campaign attended the Have your Say event held at the Wilmot Street Community Centre in Heanor on Wednesday 2nd February. There was an opportunity to put questions to councillors and the answers would be given in writing. Trevor Hallam put questions about the closure of the Charles Hill Sports Hall to Cabinet members and has received an email with the answers to his questions. To view the full email click Here.

Mrs Janet Padgham, President of Loscoe Women's Institute received a letter from AVBC thanking her for submitting the petition. The letter states that the petition will be debated at the next meeting of the Full Council, on Tuesday 1st March at 7pm. To view the letter in full click Here.

Issue of Customer Newsletter No. 3. It states that as the negotiations with those groups that expressed an interest in taking over Charles Hill are unlikely to be concluded before the end of March, the hall will close to the public on 31st March but demolision will be delayed.

The petition was presented by Councillor Bob Moon at the AVBC Meeting this evening at Ripley Town Hall.

The petition was presented to Councillor Bob Moon at Charles Hill Sports Hall. The final total of names on the petition was 1,343. A fantastic achievement.

As the petition carried over 1,200 signatures, county council policy states that it must now be the subject of debate and this will take place at the next full AVBC Meeting to be held on Tuesday 1st March at Ripley Town Hall

Past Events

9th February.

Presentation of petition containing 1,343 signature to Councillor Bob Moon at Charles Hill Sports Hall.

The petition was then presented to the full AVBC Meeting that evening at Ripley Town Hall

2nd December. Meeting of Heanor & Loscoe Town Council at Heanor Town Hall. Whilst not an open meeting it will be possible to attend (but not to take part in) this meeting. However, three representatives of the campaign will be in attendance to put forward views on behalf of the users of the centre and the community.Meeting cancelled due to adverse weather.
17th November at 7pm. Meeting of Amber Valley Borough Council at Ripley Town Hall. This was not an open meeting.

Monday 15th November. A photographer from the Ripley and Heanor News visits the centre to take pictures of the centre, some of its users, and supporters of the campaign to save the sports hall. Interestingly, he was not allowed inside to take photographs of the hall itself.

Saturday 13th November 2010 saw many people gathering at the Charles Hill Sports Centre for one of the surgery sessions to "meet your town councillor".
